Shoruq Organization Marks the 75th of the Palestinian Nakba On May 15 of each year, Palestinians around the world commemorate the painful anniversary of the Nakba, which resulted in the displacement of the majority of the Palestinian people and turned them into refugees living in camps and in the diaspora, away from their cities and villages from which they were forcibly displaced. As the Palestinian people mark the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, Shoruq Organization highlights the continuing challenges facing the Palestinian people and their cause, including settlement expansion, the fragmentation of the West Bank, ongoing efforts to alter the character of Jerusalem and displace its residents, discrimination against Palestinians inside Israel, the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and the continued failure to implement relevant international resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 194 concerning the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes. In light of these challenges, Shoruq Organization emphasizes the importance of advancing national reconciliation, ending division, and strengthening collective Palestinian efforts to raise awareness of the Palestinian cause locally and internationally. The organization stresses the importance of using contemporary and effective tools, particularly modern media, to amplify Palestinian voices and counter narratives that marginalize Palestinian history, rights, and experiences. Shoruq further emphasizes the need to empower Palestinian refugee youth through media and cultural education, while developing their skills in debate, critical thinking, and constructing strong and persuasive arguments. Such efforts can help young Palestinians represent their cause locally and internationally and challenge stereotypical portrayals of Palestinians in the media. The organization also recognizes the growing public awareness and support for Palestinian rights in several Western countries, particularly in the United States, noting the role played by activists, human rights advocates, civil society organizations, and others in advancing awareness and solidarity with the Palestinian people. Seventy-five years after the Nakba, Shoruq Organization reaffirms its commitment to supporting Palestinian rights, preserving collective memory, and empowering young people to become active voices for their communities and their cause. The organization calls on civil society organizations locally and internationally to continue supporting efforts that raise awareness of violations against Palestinians, including refugees, and to advocate for justice, accountability, an end to the occupation, and the realization of Palestinian rights.
