Chess – the art of strategy and thinking

In 2025, Shoruq introduced aChess training as a new activity within its arts and creative learning initiatives. The program was designed to offer children a structured and stimulating space where learning, play and personal development come together. The initiative was met with strong interest from both children and parents, highlighting the demand for meaningful activities that support children’s cognitive and social development. The firsttraining session engaged 15 children (8 boys and 7 girls) aged 8–14, creating a balanced and inclusive group. Children showed genuine enthusiasm and curiosity, actively participating and expressing enjoymentthroughoutthe session. Beyond learning the rules ofthe game,the program provided children with an opportunity to develop strategic thinking, concentration, patience, and problem solving skills, while also reinforcing values such as sportsmanship,respect and fair play Chess also created a welcoming social space where children could interact, build friendships and learn together contributing positively to their emotional well-being and sense of belonging. By introducing chess as a creative and educationaltool, Shoruq expanded its approach to art and expression, offering children a new way to strengthen their minds, confidence and interpersonal skills.
